ONE-CLICK KINKY RECS
So, I get asked for recs a lot, so I decided to finally make an ongoing list of some of my favorite kinky MM books. While kink is obviously super personal, and there is absolutely no one size fits all, I think if you enjoy my books, you might enjoy some of these too. I've read a lot of these multiple times, and most of them are heavy on my personal favorite things-- kink exploration and introspection, trouble with emotions, not-so-mainstream romantic gestures, and plenty of spanking.
I've kept the descriptions short and spoiler free, but do check the full blurbs for your personal tastes/triggers. I'll update over time, but this is a good start! (Links go to Amazon if they're available there, a few are non-Amazon only.)
Hey, and do me a favor! If you read and enjoy some of these books, pop the author a quick review or rating on Amazon! It makes a huge difference. More reviews mean more visibility which means more readers, which means our favorite kinky authors can afford to keep writing books we love! (So really the favor is for all of us, lol.)
Okay, let's start with JA Rock. Yeah, she gets her own row, and this isn't even all my favorites of hers. Truthfully, half this list could be her books. No one-- repeat, no one-- writes brats and domestic discipline like JA Rock. So if that's your jam, this is your author. She writes kink with heart and authority, and writes terrific angst and snarky comedy. I narrowed it down to four of my faves. ;)
Aiden is kinky AF and falls into an abusive BDSM relationship. When he escapes it, he meets Keaton and finds out what love and domestic discipline are all about. Lots of hurt/comfort, spanking, and kink exploration. This was my first JA Rock book and my #1 Fave of all my kinky faves.
JA Rock and Lisa Henry were writing puppy play before puppy play was cool! Lane is super introverted and his life is a total mess. When he meets Derek, they have less than zero reason to trust each other. And yet... This is the first book in a sexy, high angst series that also has lots of laughs. Age gap, hurt/comfort, domestic discipline, and puppy play!
Yes, this is exactly what you're hoping it is, and no, you're not dreaming. Like Freaky Friday, but with a dom and a sub. Kinky boyfriends switch bodies. Jayk and Amon are a truly sweet couple and it's so fun to watch them stumble through this. This one is low angst, super fun, and sexy as hell. (And it has a great sequel!)
First in a series of books about close friends who explore different kinks and grieve together after a difficult loss. This one features a smart mouthed mega-brat who is sure he can break a dom he meets online... but starts falling for him instead. Oops! SO MUCH SPANKING AND DISCIPLINE!
Now lets talk Cin Forrester, writing one of my all time favorite tropes-- brat forcing authority figure's hand and totally perving on it unbeknownst to said authority figure. The kink discovery, kink exploration, spanking, angst, forbidden love, finding the balance between punishment and funishment, it's all here. The Off Limits series are the only books out under this penname so far, and they are so, so good. I'm leaving some extra spaces here, because this series is ongoing, just like my love for it. Yes, I'm cheesy. Live with it. ;)
Trevor is a super-brat college freshman with a lot of issues who is sent to live with his hot, strict godfather, Grady. When Trevor tricks Grady into spanking him, he realizes he likes it for lots of reasons.
In book two, the domestic discipline continues, and Trevor tries to sort out his feels about discipline and about Grady.
In book three, Trevor and Grady struggle to work out what's happening between them. Also, much more spanking. (I know that's vague, but I'm avoiding spoilers!)
Okay, Jere Haken. Now, I know a lot of people are going to want to skip right past as soon as I say short stories, but don't, okay? Seriously, if spanking is your thing, Jere Haken is not to be missed. They write awkward, angsty, uncomfortable, embarrassing kink discovery and kink exploration moments so, so, SO well, and straight up daydreamy spanking fantasy for spankos. There just aren't very many full length novels that dive into that stuff. (Although I would be ALL ABOUT a Jere Haken novel. Jere, if you're listening... ) I'm not sure I'd call these erotica exactly, but maybe romantic heavy erotica? With no sex? (The spanking is the sex, generally.) Jere has loads of stories, lots of them are about spanking virgins and confusing feelings, and there's something for everyone, honestly. These are some of my faves, but I've read and would rec them all.
After a terrible attempt at getting his first spanking, Aaron wakes up hungover at a strangers house. So, how does the stranger know his deepest desires?
When Seth finally resorts to the internet to find a spanking partner, Jamal is so much more than he could have hoped for.
A spoiled brat gets his first spanking from his very indulgent boyfriend. Seriously, Oliver is extremely, exhaustingly, dramatically bratty. You've been warned.
Devon's best friend promises him a birthday spanking. And holy role play, does he deliver. But then things take an unexpected turn...
Fabian Black is probably a name you know if you've been reading MM domestic discipline for any length of time. Fabian's books are classics and are generally really heavy on the hurt/comfort and domestic discipline but very light on the sexytimes. If you like books about unruly, troubled brats with no direction and lots of bad ideas who fall for stern men with firm hands and lots of patience who rescue and reassure them, (Yes, please!) you should definitely check out these books! Here are some of my faves, but there are lots more!
Age gap, angst, domestic discipline, and a brat who's in way over his head at work while dealing with some other troubles.
A psychiatrist decides he's the one to take a struggling street musician in hand. Age gap, hurt/comfort, angst, and domestic discipline.
A brat with a lot of issues, a bit of mystery, high angst, hurt/comfort, age gap, and domestic discipline.
A sweet holiday coffee shop short story about a troubled brat, a lonely grump and their budding domestic discipline relationship.
Still not enough? Good, because I have more! Keep reading!
I've bonded with so many people over this book! Accidental roommate romance with super sweet and hot kink discovery and exploration between a nerd and a jock. So many of my favorite things!
So, what if the sub was older and the dom was younger? What if the sub was an art teacher and the dom was his high school student? SO GOOD. (This one is only available on Smashwords.)
A strict, controlling kinkster hires a bratty bartender whose life is a mess. What does he need? Say it with me, peeps. A firm hand. Jane Davitt is amazing, and a lot of her older books are free right now via AO3!
A kinky fetish photographer meets a down on his luck model who could use some guidance. (You know what that means.) Lots of kinky experimentation, and a bit of angst. AND THAT COVER.
Kim Dare writes a lot of great kink, but the Kinky Cupid series is my personal fave. This super serious dom is definitely not interested in the inexperienced bratty sub who's stalking him... right?
This book is all kinds of messed up and kinky AF. A kidnap victim who is SUPER into it, one of the hottest spanking scenes I've ever read, and some definite guardian/daddy kink although it's not explicitly spelled out. (Only available thru Payhip)
You might know T.M. Chris as Tanya Chris, where she writes sometimes kinky romance novels, but my fave of hers is still this gem. Teenage kink exploration with a side of that forcing-the-authority-figure's-hand kinktrope I love so much.
Kelvin is struggling with college and adulting and agrees to take part in an extra credit study on (kinky fantasy incoming) corporal punishment. This leads to some kink self-discovery and awkward moments when he develops a crush on his study instructor. Ends with a sweet, hot, spanky HEA!
Daniel May writes my favorite kinds of characters-- complicated and unapologetically terrible lol. The Taste of Ink trilogy and so freaking good. The first book starts with cheating which basically becomes a kink for the main character and he gets more and more interested in exploring different kinds of sex and kink with both partners as the series goes on. He also tries to figure himself out, but wow that's a big ask lol. Tons of character development here, and some great unique writing!
Okay, this one's probably the darkest rec on this page, so check the triggers before reading. I'd call it mild/medium dark, but everyone is different. Do you love enemies-to-lovers but get bored as fuck when they stop being enemies? Me too. This has lots of enemy time lol. Isaac is a DICK and kind of crazy delusional. He hates his co-worker Atticus (who I love) until he sees his piercings and then becomes obsessed and convinced he's in love with him. And then basically tortures him until he agrees to date him. #romance!
Worked is a short & spanky novella that centers one of my favorite themes-- adults who are bad at adulting even when they try, and also they don't really want to try because that adulting shit is hard and boring. If only someone could see their potential and help them get their life together. 😏
Peyton is a spoiled rich kid who's stumbled through life with no consequences and no real direction or ambition. He wants to do better, he just doesn't know how. Until he finds out about Bars & Stars, a ranch where they whip guys into shape and hand out some much needed discipline, and meets Tex, his trainer, who teaches Peyton pretty quickly that he really should have read the fine print on that contract...
It will surprise absolutely no one that a story about a trying-hard-but-failing-harder dorm master at a boarding school, who agrees to be disciplined by the headmaster, and ends up liking it has basically a perfect plot imo. 😉 A Teaching Moment by Jax Ryder is a fun, fast paced novella, hot and kinky with interesting characters and a unique writing voice. I can't wait to see what's next from this author!
RECS THAT ARE NOT KINKY MM BOOKS!
I know it seems improbable, but I do have a few! ;) So, like a lot of readers, I was an outcast who found my way through books. I was-- and still am-- always searching for myself on the page, hoping for positive, healthy, authentic representation that makes me feel seen and understood and less alone. So, here are some other books that kicked me right in the chest with the feels. <3
If there's anyone left who hasn't read this, I envy you. This book is my go-to comfort reread. It's one of those chameleon stories that will always deliver the feels I need, no matter my mood. Tom's life is, well, shit. He's broke, alone, lost, totally unmoored, and doesn't belong anywhere. And through a dorm room mix up, he ends up somewhere he's definitely not welcome. His asshole roommate tries to scare him off with some late night hookups, but it has the opposite result... (I say this is non-kinky, but holy smokes, the voyeurism!) (MM)
You know those books that are super long and you still wish they were ten times longer because you never want them to end? This book. Grant is scraping his way through high school hiding his extreme poverty and unsafe living conditions. Casey is coasting in a pretty privileged lifestyle. They butt heads. They hate each other. Until they don't. But their lives are still so incredibly different it makes everything difficult. This book will break your freaking heart and then put it back together. (MM)
The License to Love books are standalones in a series about a boy band, but you should totally read them all. So, I always say friends-to-lovers isn't really my thing. Which is mostly true. But not this time. Christian's been in love with Teague forever. But Teague is oblivious and a total player... except not. This is really, really good demisexual rep, that unfolds as part of the romance, not as an infodump lesson. There's so much talking during the sexing in this book and I freakin adore that. Also, I cried. Don't tell anyone. (MM)
I know. Two books by the same author in the same series in a row. They're just that good. This is the first MF rec on the list and features my favorite female lead probably ever. Dempsey has extreme anxiety and agoraphobia. She doesn't leave her house, ever. These are things I can relate to intimately and they are written so, so well. The absolute WORST person she could fall for is an over-the-top celebrity rock star who loves attention and attracts paparazzi everywhere he goes. But the heart wants what it wants... (MF)
Two unfriendly, antisocial men, living with baggage and pain that can't be wished away, find each other in a quiet town and fall in love doing quiet things-- after hating and annoying each other for a delicious while first. This book meanders around in a slow, chill way instead of heading laser-focused for the HEA. I really, really appreciate books like that. Hell, it even managed to make my least favorite romance subgenre-- small town romance-- enjoyable. Almost impossible.
Work for It also delivers on two of my favorite things— positive, realistic mental health rep and a storyline that’s heavy on character development, light on external plot. Love it. So if you, like me, enjoy grumpy, plotless, strangers to enemies to almost lovers to enemies to almost lovers to friends to enemies to friends to lovers romance, this rec is for you! (MM)
I was lucky enough to read this book way back when it was still going by its working title, Ex-Psychiatrist Daddy Kink, and well, that description still works, lol. Starla is Lowry's former patient who was deeply in love with him years ago and is also kinky AF. When they reunite after her father's death, lots of feelings come flooding back-- emotional and physical, as they rebuild the trust they once had and try to see if there's room for anything else between them. For Her Own Good explores mental health and kink in deeply personal, positive ways. (M/F)
